One of the thrusts that the government's National Reform Commission has outlined for itself is the improvement of the nation's motorcycle taxis. Currently, Thailand has over 300 thousand motorcycles for hire with roughly one third of them operating in Bangkok alone. The majority of these motorcyle-taxi drivers are not registered in any formal way and are not subjected to any kind of state monitored control. In recent times, analysts have pointed to the networked and assembled mass of mobilized mercenaries as an easy target for megalomaniacs to take advantage of, especially considering their infamously rowdy nature.

It is considered to be a positive development when everyone is starting to talk about “reconciliation” again. This could be the long-term resolution to the country's ongoing political conflict. However, we are concerned that the term “reconciliation” coined by politicians is usually laced with hidden political agendas, only aiming to win public's favor in elections. Everyone, especially the government, is well aware that Parliament will not be dissolved and the new election will be not be called within this year. However, given the nature of Thai politics, anything is possible. Because of this all political parties have been trying to promote“reconciliation” as their main policy platforms to the conflict-weary public, who would want to see the country peaceful again.

The Three Southern Border Provinces Teachers Federation has agreed to close all schools in Narathiwat for three days following the murder of two teachers. Earlier today, suspected insurgents shot and killed 54-year-old Wilat Kongkam, a Baan Manung Kayhee School teacher, and his 53-year-old wife, Komkam Petchprom, also a school teacher in Narathiwat. Both were pronounced dead at the scene due to fatal bullet wounds.
