| UPDATE : 30 July 2010 |
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has congratulated Thai representatives after the World Heritage Committee decided to postpone its decision on the disputed Preah Vihear Temple to next year's conference.
Meanwhile, Cambodia has expressed dissatisfaction with the decision.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has congratulated and thanked Thai representatives in Brazil for their role behind the UNESCO World Heritage's decision to postpone its deliberation on the land management plan proposed by Cambodia on the area surrounding the disputed Preah Vihear Temple, to next year's conference in Bahrain.
The prime minister has closely monitored the conference and he reportedly made a direct phone call to the representatives of Thailand, to congratulate and thank them for the hard work they've done for the country.
Meanwhile, it has been reported by the Phanom Penh Post that Tith Sothea, the spokesperson of Quick Information Response Unit, a press office under the supervision of the Cambodian prime minister, has condemned the Thai government's opposition to the land management plan, claiming that the move was initiated by the Thai government and some radical elements.
He said it will prove detrimental to Thailand's image and could damage the cross-border relationship between the two nations.
Sothea added that Thailand's opposition to the plan aims to violate the sovereignty of Cambodia and that Thailand has committed a great dishonor to itself and the international community.
The spokesperson's statement was made after Abhisit announced that the Thai government will cease to cooperate with the World Heritage Committee and will reconsider its membership with the body if the land management plan is approved before the border dispute between the two countries is resolved.
